What You Need to Know The trail is 6.8 km to the far end of the lake and the campground with an elevation gain of 130 m (425 ft). There are 2 bridges to cross and a boardwalk to the viewpoint. Dogs cannot stay overnight at the campsites on this trail. On summer weekends, it is a popular place to be with lots of people in the area.
The trail to this mountain lake is one of the busiest in the Canadian Rockies with lots of backpackers on their way to Berg Lake at the foot of Mount Robson, British Columbia. Mountain bikers and horseback riders may be sharing the trail with you so practice good trail manners and have you dog on leash. This comfortably wide trail follows the Robson River for 4.2 km to the edge of the lake. There are a couple of bridges to cross so make sure your dog is ok with crossing bridges. The trail passes through stands of western white pine, western hemlock and a stand of old growth western red cedar. You will have a better view of the lake if you follow the trail a kilometer more along the southeast shore to the Kinney Lake Viewpoint. From the viewpoint, the trail climbs a bit and then heads down to the shore of the lake. Carry on to the lakeside campsite. This would be the turn around point for the day at 6.8 km from the trailhead. The trail gains elevation quickly from here on and becomes more challenging for dogs and hikers. Please remember, dogs are not permitted to overnight at any of the campgrounds on this trail.
