Ribbon Creek Trail to Ribbon Falls

One of our favorite hikes is Ribbon Creek to Ribbon Falls in Kananaskis Country. Follow Highway 40 south to the Kananaskis Lodge turnoff and follow the signs to the trail head. This trail follows Ribbon Creek through a magnificent valley between Mount Kidd and Mount Bogart.

What You Need to Know

There are some wooden bridges to be crossed and early in the season the spring run off can be high , so make sure you dog is comfortable crossing small bridges. I had to train one of my dogs to do this before he could attempt this hike.

If you followed the trail to the end you would cover 11 km’s and end up at a spectacular water fall. This is the end of the hike for dogs as you need to use chains and ropes to get up the headwall to the upper valley No worries. There is plenty of great hiking without having to do that.

The beauty of this hike is it can be as easy as you want. You can turn around anytime and still have had a great time. 2.5 km’s into the hike you will see a link from the Terrace Trail which gives you an option to loop back to the parking lot. Over the entire 11 km’s, the elevation gain is a gradual 350m.

This easy hike is attractive to lots of people so you will meet others and possibly other dogs on the trail. Make sure you dog is on leash and under control.
